Tentative Framework On MPSERS Deal Supposedly Reached
Governor Rick Snyder, Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof (R-West Olive) and House Speaker Tom Leonard (R-DeWitt) have reportedly reached a tentative agreement on restructuring the MPSERS system. While rumors are rampant about the shape of the agreement, no solid details are available. What we know is that Meekhof, Leonard, and Snyder announced earlier today that they have a "tentative framework" for new teacher retirement options for new hires and that there are still "fine points" yet to be determined. Beyond that, everything is speculation.
While it has not been expressly stated, it also seems clear that any agreement is limited to new school employees who are hired after this proposed compromise takes effect. To date, none of the proposals discussed would have any impact on current employees.
MASSP is following this situation closely and will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available. |
