Dear Teaching Staff

We hope this finds you successfully winding down another outstanding school year!  We realize how busy it is this time of year and truly appreciate all you do for our students.  It’s our hope that we can help lessen (at least in a small way) your anxieties regarding the evaluation process these last few weeks.

In meeting with our district evaluation committee, discussion was held about whether to get rid of assigning points to the rubrics.  It seems as if the process has been hindered by this system due to the importance of earning enough points to be rated “Highly Effective” and away from an improvement process.  We have decided to not assign points this year for a couple of reasons.

We are not currently in a “layoff mode” which should allow us to get back to the process of supporting teachers and working towards continuous improvement.  We are in the process of transitioning to the 5D+ model of teacher evaluation and that instrument is completely different than the Danielson model in regards to the rating system.  In other words, we are going to have to change the system next year anyway.  Finally, it seems that assigning points is the most stressful part of the process and if we can help to lessen it, then our hope is your last few weeks will be focused on the students and their achievement rather than worrying about how many points are earned.

We hope you have a great last three weeks and an enjoyable summer break!
